St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston Deploys World’s Only Biodefense Indoor Air Protection System

First medical center in the nation to protect patients and staff from airborne pathogens with virus eliminating technology that instantaneously catches and kills Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 (99.999%)

HOUSTON, April 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Houston’s first hospital, 134-year-old St. Joseph Medical Center, has installed Integrated Viral Protection (IVP) technology throughout its facilities, taking a major step in preventing the spread of airborne illnesses. IVP’s Biodefense Indoor Air SystemTM is the only existing air filtration system that instantaneously catches and kills airborne COVID-19 (99.999%) and other airborne viruses in a single pass.

St. Joseph Medical Center is the first hospital in the nation to install the IVP technology, which meets ASHRAE standards and has been granted emergency use authorization by the FDA during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital has 700 beds with more than 500 physicians and 1,500 employees – and now hosts 24 of the biodefense units in patient waiting areas, admitting areas, staff lounges, cafeteria, surgical suites, its COVID-19 clinic and other high traffic zones.

“As St. Joseph Medical Center continues to position itself as a center of excellence, we look forward to implementing the IVP technology within our facility to further protect our patients, staff, and visitors, especially as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Kim Bassett, RN, MBA, President of St. Joseph Medical Center. “The state-of-the-art technology will complement and extend the standards we already have in place in our pursuit to provide the highest quality of patient care.”

St. Joseph Medical Center is a member of Steward Health Care, the largest private, for-profit health care network in the United States. The company is owned and led by a management team of Steward physicians, employs more than 40,000 health care professionals, and operates 35 hospitals across the country. The medical center was acquired in 2017 by Steward and is undergoing an $80 million renovation.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has created enormous challenges for the healthcare industry, among others, and we wanted to find a way to kill the virus to make indoor air safer for all,” said Monzer Hourani, IVP creator. “Hospitals and other health care environments require the highest quality indoor air we can provide to fully emerge from this public health crisis. This technology will protect people from airborne viruses for years to come, whether it be Covid-19, flu virus, or others.”

The system was designed by Hourani, who has a background in physics, science and engineering. The revolutionary technology works by forcing air through a heated filter that captures and kills contaminants, including airborne pathogens, instantaneously, without significantly changing the ambient air temperature. Hourani was recently named Top 25 Newsmaker of the Year and given the Award of Excellence by the Engineering News-Record for his ground breaking invention.

Integrated Viral Protection Invests in America’s Youth and the Arts

For 20 years, the Academy of Music of the Paderewski Symphony Orchestra (PaSO) has served the Chicago community by providing musical education to families in the surrounding area. Their mission is to strengthen and develop our community by providing Polish-Americans with a cultural experience that they can actively participate in and be proud of. Music and Polish culture are at the heart of everything they do.

“The exponential growth recently experienced at the Academy of Music of the PaSO, has led to the need for expansion into a new building,” says Adam Kamieniak who sits on the PaSO board. “This will allow us to continue serving and meeting the needs of the Polish American community.” With this new building, the Academy of Music of the PaSO intends to stand by their mission of using the arts to provide a rich Polish cultural experience. Today begins a two-day radiothon on Radio Polski (FM 92.7) as part of their ongoing efforts to raise the needed $130,000 to complete renovations of the newly purchased building.

Integrated Viral Protection (IVP), PaSO lead sponsor for the radiothon, is committed to safely reopening America. Their biodefense indoor air protection system, created by Monzer Hourani, destroys airborne viruses instantaneously, including COVID-19 (99.999%), influenza and others. To help in their mission of keeping the public safe, IVP will be donating an R1 Unit to the radio station during the radiothon. In the fall, when The Academy of Music of the PaSO opens, IVP will be donating units throughout the school, to continue to provide clean air to all students, staff, and guests.

IVP’s Monzer Hourani recognizes and believes in the importance of the arts. Since the start of the pandemic, Mr. Hourani has deployed IVP units to the University of Houston Orchestra for concerts held in their home city of Houston. Hourani has been a guest Conductor for many of these concerts, most recently conducting at the Virtuoso Gala in Houston.

“The only way we re-open America and the Arts is by providing clean air—we all need this in our lives,” states Hourani.

About Integrated Viral Protection (IVP)

Integrated Viral Protection Solutions, LP (IVP) was created by Monzer Hourani in April 2020, to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic and to foster research, development, and deployment of technologies that offer biodefense solutions to mitigate transmission of biological threats in indoor environments. At the heart of this award-winning biodefense design is a proprietary heated mesh that works in conjunction with legacy air filtration found in HVAC systems. The resulting suite of products will offer proven in-line mitigation for the airborne transmission of COVID-19 indoors. This technology has been recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers as a top innovation of 2020 for fighting COVID-19.

The Biodefense Indoor Air Protection System is first line prevention technology against environmentally (airborne) mediated transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). The heated biodefense filter can be retrofitted into commercial and home HVAC systems and/or deployed as a mobile unit equipped with powerful filtration capability. Integrated Viral Protection Launches Travel Mobile Unit That Kills All Airborne Viruses

HOUSTON, May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Integrated Viral Protection (IVP) launched a new portable air purifying unit that instantaneously kills COVID-19 and other airborne pathogens. The compact travel unit, ideal for spaces up to 250 square feet, quietly cleans the air anywhere, including in hotel rooms, meeting rooms, residential spaces and more.

“This FDA-approved technology is revolutionary, especially for travel, and will allow consumers peace of mind that they are breathing in viral-free air,” said Caroline Blazovsky, healthy home expert and founder of My Healthy Home.

The unit is also perfect for hotel and dorm rooms or common areas of a home. This protection against viruses and airborne pathogens is especially valuable when visiting high-risk individuals or hosting indoor gatherings.

“The new portable Travel unit is only 12 inches tall with airflow of 35 cubic feet-per-minute, making it extremely convenient for people at home or on the go to elevate the air quality of any indoor space,” said Dr. Garrett Peel, IVP co-founder.

IVP’s indoor air biodefense technology is being rapidly deployed across the nation in medical centers, office buildings, schools, college dorms, restaurants and hotels, among other locations. The company offers a variety of mobile units for larger spaces, and this backpack sized device is their latest achievement.

“This technology can help us overcome not only the COVID-19 pandemic, but future airborne illnesses such as the seasonal flu,” said Monzer Hourani, inventor and chairman of IVP. “We must invest in the future of clean air technology to avoid shutting the world down again because of a virus.”

Recently, Hourani received the Award of Excellence from Engineering News-Record for his lifetime achievement in structural engineering, architecture, design and real estate development, and for this breakthrough invention. IVP’s Biodefense Indoor Air Protection System is proven as the only technology to “catch and kill” COVID-19 (99.999%) and other airborne pathogens instantaneously in a single pass.
